WIAW #7 and a Vlog!

Happy Humps Day!!! I am super excited this morning because I filmed a vlog for all of you about my 5 day slim down results! The video will be at the bottom of this post for those of you who just want to see my WIAW post. πŸ™‚ Basically this WIAW is what I did on the slim down. You guys get to see what a typical day was for me, then if you’re curious you can watch the video and see the results. Spoiler: I feel amazing!

Breakfast

For breakfast I had a slim down protein pancake topped with raspberries. Loved the addition of the raspberries. Normally I do blueberries or strawberries, but let me tell you those babies tasted amazing. I had another pancake this morning. I am now stuck in a protein pancake habit. Hope you all don’t mind. πŸ˜‰ I also have a bombshell spell every morning to kick up my metabolism and help my tummy digest better!

Mid-Morning Munch

I had an apple plus a chocolate Zico. I did manage to take a picture of the Zico haha. By the way, these are amazing! They have great nutritional stats and this one tastes like chocolate milk. I hate every other Zico flavor, but this one satisfies my chocolate craving and helps hydrate me after a sweat fest. I love LOVE it. It has like 680 mg of potassium, which is more than a banana. It has electrolytes to refuel after your workout. Simple carbs from the chocolate, so it’s awesome when paired with a protein after a workout to drive the protein into the muscles and is only 110 calories. Chump change for people who workout. πŸ™‚ I highly recommend it. It will definitely be with me through my half marathon training and during that actual half itself to keep me hydrated. Hydration is super important every single day! So drink up!

Lunch

Every day on the slim down I had chicken teriyaki collard wraps. I am obsessed with these. They taste soooooooo amazing and they are super awesome for you! They have a nice little vegetable kicker and a protein punch. What more could you ask for in a lunch?!

Afternoon Smoothie

The same smoothie recipe I posted the other day. My crack berry smoothie wonder. I am doing a vlog soon reviewing some of the protein powders and supplements I use if you guys are curious. I’ll talk about why I chose them and the taste. I hope that’s helpful, because sometimes I get questions on Twitter.

Dinner

For dinner I alternated between chicken with pineapple salsa and garlic shrimp! You guys get to see the garlic shrimp today, since it was my favorite. It was seriously so good! I put it over some quinoa to round out my meal with more protein! πŸ™‚ Starches are super limited on the slim down to help cut you down and feel less bloated so that’s why most of these meals are protein based. I didn’t even miss the starches to be honest. But I do have a review coming up in a few minutes on a new clean cracker I found with amazing nutritional stats. πŸ™‚

Late Night Snack

I had a bowl of blueberries and blackberries a couple hours after dinner when I got hungry. Sorry there was no picture, the lighting was awful!

Here’s my vlog on the results of my slim down! Let me know what you think! Or if you try it. My roommate and I are starting a group in a couple weeks of girls who are doing it again if you want to join let me know! πŸ™‚

Martha’s Vineyard Recap

So as you all know the reason I was absent this weekend with posts was because I was on Martha’s Vineyard with no internet. However, I had an amazing time with my roommate at her house! I really enjoyed the fact that we both went on the slim down together while we were there. Being “home” since it will be my home at the end of May, really helped us refocus our energy back into this series and our healthy lifestyle. We had fallen off the bandwagon a bit, but realized it was really harmful to our bodies and all the progress we had made. This time around we are staying focused and doing the slim down two more times before the bikini series is over. YOU SHOULD ALL STILL SIGN UP FOR THE SERIES! Then let me know if you do and we can chat on twitter about everything! πŸ™‚

Anyways, we started off by not being able to get on the boat till 9:45 at night so we were driving around Falmouth, MA and may have made a pitstop to Dairy Queen… See I told you! Haha, I didn’t snap a picture of that but if you want an epic blizzard ask for a vanilla blizzard with cookie dough, oreos, and pie crust. You will thank me later! Here are some of the shots from Falmouth.

Those were just taken from some random parking lot we found while trying to kill time before our ferry reservation. The sunset was starting to get pretty! I wish I had a better camera because some of the houses were absolutely gorgeous. Except for this creepy fairy tale one we found… I should have gotten a picture, even my roommate was creeped out.

Here are some from my roommate and I’s date in Menemsha on Martha’s Vineyard. This actually kind of a funny story. We went to go see the sunset and were waiting in the car because it was kind of cold for the sunset to start getting pretty. I mentioned how I felt like we were going to miss the sunset waiting and within minutes the sun started to go behind the clouds. I was like GET OUT NOW! We managed to take some decent pictures even though we were dumb and should have just taken pictures when we got there. But if you are ever on Martha’s Vineyard, I highly recommend going to Menemsha to see the sunset. It was gorgeous. πŸ™‚

Beautiful, right? That was about the only day we experienced good weather. The rest of the weekend it was rainy and semi-dark. So before the sunset here we went for a nice run on a different beach with this awesome path! It had a great view and seriously kept me motivated for my week 2, day 3 Couch to 5k app plan! I managed to run 2.85 miles in 35 minutes. I went a little over the time since I was running back to the car and it took me longer than expected since it was really windy once I turned around. Here’s my proof! πŸ™‚

It was a great run! The sun was shining, it was cool but not too cold once I started running, and it was right next to the beach. What more could you ask for in a run?! You could tell I haven’t run outside in like… well, ever… Because my shins started to feel it and an old ankle injury started to flare up. But it was fine once I rested for the night! My body just needs baby steps when it comes to running outside. Another reason this plan is perfect! I wish I could run outside today, but unfortunately it’s been raining alllllllll dayyyyyyyy… Seriously, it’s the end of April. It shouldn’t be cold and rainy! Where’s my summer and sunshine? It cannot come fast enough. πŸ˜‰

Other than that the weekend was amazingly relaxing, full of good food and old movies, and maybe even successful in the job hunting front. I may be working at a Meat and Fish market! That may not sound exciting to some, but I am really excited about it for some reason! I have a phone interview tomorrow, so wish me luck!

See you love bugs tomorrow! Maybe I will do a vlog this week too!

Five Day Slim Down

Hey guys! I have a terrible confession to make. Last week I was really bad. I cheated almost every single day. I was bloated, feeling like crap, on a constant sugar high, and feeling like a beached whale. Don’t get me wrong, cheating doesn’t bother me. It’s just when it’s in excess that my body starts to feel the effects. When that happens I realize I am in dire need of focus and a cleanse. So I decided to do the 5 Day Slim Down from the new Tone It Up update this weekend. I wanted to debloat and really refocus myself for the rest of the bikini series. I am midway through day 4 currently and I am obsessed with this plan. It is such a delicious and healthy way to lose all that cheating bloat weight and calm the sugar cravings to really get you back to your clean and healthy eating. Something I have realized I just cannot go very long without anymore. Oh the good ole days of being a fat kid and eating whatever I wanted. It must have been 24/7 bloat since I never noticed it back then. I just hate feeling sluggish and puffy. So let me share with you some of the eats from this weekend since I finally have internet back in my life. Did you miss me? πŸ˜‰

So far every morning I have started off with a bombshell spell (a metabolism drink they put together to speed up metabolism and aid in digestion) and a protein pancake topped with sliced strawberries and a kiss of honey. I seriously have become obsessed with protein pancakes. Be prepared to see them more than my beloved oatmeal the next few weeks because I am on a roll with them!

Before I eat the pancake and after the bombshell spell I do a 20 minute HIIT workout, like the plan recommends. I have been doing the HIIT the Beach workout from the Tone It Up Beach Babe DVD that was just released. I highly recommend buying this DVD, I have never been so challenged outside of the gym in my life. That’s a lot coming from this lifting junkie. My arms, legs, and abs have been burning all weekend. And the girls are super motivating and obviously I love them to pieces so it’s awesome being able to workout with them. I apologize for that shotty grammer. πŸ˜‰

Then for lunch, I am going to skip some of the snacks, I have been having Chicken Teriyaki Collard Wraps. This is another recipe from the plan and it leaves you with a foodgasm. I kid you not, these girls worked really hard on this plan because all of the food is amazing. I cannot get enough of the chicken teriyaki wraps this weekend. I wish I could share the recipe, but unfortunately I can’t so if you want it buy the plan! It’s an amazing plan anyways and it teaches you a lot about timing of certain foods, superfoods, exercise, and eating clean. Plus the community is unmatched anywhere. I love those girls like they were my family and I haven’t even met any of them. Haha, that sounds creepy. Guess you would have to be in it to get it? Or I am just creepy… Valid.

Before dinner we have also been doing a 30 minute workout like the plan specifies. More on that in the next post!

For dinner my roommate and I have alternated between North Shore Garlic Shrimp and Quinoa (to die for) and Grilled Hawaiian Chicken with Pineapple Salsa. I can’t even believe I have been losing weight eating these to be honest. They are so filling and so delicious. Even my roommate who is really picky with flavor and portions agrees! If that’s not a stamp of approval I’m not sure what is!

I also have an amazing smoothie recipe to share with you that tastes like ice cream and I eat it with a spoon. My roommate and I have become obsessed with it and have been drinking it every single day for our mid-afternoon snack!

Crack Berry Smoothie

1/2 cup Frozen Mixed Berries (no sugar added)
1 cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
1 scoop Vanilla Protein Powder (I use Sunwarrior!)
1 frozen banana
A pinch of xanthan gum if you want it thicker like ice cream (thick without!)

Directions: Blend and enjoy your foodgasm!

Stay put I’m about to post my Martha’s Vineyard Pictures from this weekend! πŸ™‚ I’m also going to talk more about my workouts!

Week 1, Day 3 & Quick and Dirty Shoulders

Happy FRIDAY! Ahh, I love Fridays. Other than the fact that I normally procrastinate on Thursday, so I end up having to do some work on Friday. Oh well… I am a creature of habit. πŸ˜‰

This morning I started off my day bright and early so I could hit the gym early. I was going to eat a pumpkin powercake… Trying a new recipe this time since my roommate and I bombed the last one. Um… It still stunk. I threw it away, which is a complete waste of a cup of egg whites. Alas, I move on. So instead, I had my usual 1/4 cup rolled oats with 1/4 cup oat bran. And combined it with homemade honey cinnamon peanut butter, sliced banana, chia seeds, wheat germ, and ground flax. On the side the usual 4 egg whites and salsa. πŸ™‚ I can’t get enough of oatmeal and eggs while my protein is still en route to my apartment. I need a protein pancake in my life soon! I’m sure you all would like another visual as well haha.

So after brekkie, I got changed real quick and ran out the door to get to the gym before it gets busy around lunch time. Seriously, there is something weird about Friday where it starts getting super busy earlier in the day and I wonder why most people aren’t working. Maybe they are squeezing it in on their lunch break so they can go out and have fun later? That’s a great idea in my book. πŸ˜‰ My workout consisted of a quick and dirty shoulder workout and week 1 day 3 of my Couch to 5k app! I covered 2.25 miles in 30 minutes. I know that it’s not fast, but we all know my aversion to running. So pushing myself outside of my comfort zone is me taking baby steps so I don’t go back to hating running haha. I really enjoyed my run today though! Alternating again at 3.7 mph and 6.5 mph on the walking and running intervals.

Quick and Dirty Shoulders

Arnold Should Press 3×15
Lateral Raises into Front Raises 3×12
Upright Rows 3×12
Mac Raises 3×12
Ryan’s Awesome Shoulder Move 3×12

That’s all I did at the gym! Later on today I am doing the Itty Bitty Bikini workout I posted and Beach Bum!

You know I have your back in convenient workouts! πŸ˜‰ Catch up with you guys in a little bit to show you some of my daily eats. Nothing exciting happening this weekend other than me locking myself in my apartment by myself until I finish this term paper on Ketamine. Sounds like a blast right?

Amped Up

Hey everyone! Happy thirsty Thursday! Remember to hydrate all day. πŸ™‚ It’s the weekend for me. I spent all last night looking motivation videos on YouTube for the upcoming motivation Monday post I am working on. I was so amped at midnight I wanted to get to the gym right then and there even though it was my rest day… And it was midnight haha. Seriously, watching some of the crazy speeches from movies or from real life is just insane. They can really get you wanting to move. πŸ™‚

So this morning my roommate and I woke up a little early so we could do a big workout. Hers was a double workout since she missed Monday, mine was just the Pull Workout from last week. We were there for about two hours, but it was a blast. Before the gym we had the same breakfast as yesterday, mixed berry oatmeal and 4 egg whites and salsa to fuel what was promising to be a challenging workout. It worked! We were, however, ravenous after the gym and in some serious need of protein.

So after the gym I had a big ole bowl of plain Oikos Greek yogurt topped with some Love Grown Foods Sweet Cranberry Pecan Granola and sliced strawberries. Mine was epic as usual. She combined a scoop of Caramel Toffee Fudge whey protein with plain Oikos Greek yogurt and some Superfood Cacao Crunch granola. She told me hers was pretty good. πŸ™‚

I then had a hankering for some peanut butter granola and decided to make my own. Instead of using legit peanut butter, I used PB2 with a little honey, cinnamon, and maple extract and baked for 15 minutes. It came out delicious! I can’t keep my hands off of it… So idk if I am even going to eat lunch at this point since I am so full from all the oats I have had today haha.

I’m heading back to the gym in a little bit to do some cardio. If I get really bored I might do a Nike Training Club app. I told you, I am amped up today.

Food for thought: “When you want to succeed as badly as you want to breathe, then you will be successful.” So go get some today! πŸ™‚

Half Marathon Training Part 2

So I decided I am going to talk about this opportunity as soon as possible on my blog to hold myself accountable for actually training for this race. Over the winter, I stopped in January, I was training for the Nike Women’s Half Marathon in San Francisco. I ended up going on vacation and never getting back to it especially after the people I wanted to do it with didn’t seem to think San Francisco was really doable money wise. I completely agreed and decided to just focus on weight training. This is exactly what I have been doing for the past few months. I am no longer able to run 5 miles straight, but I can now do one rep on a leg press at 500 pounds haha. However, on Twitter today I saw that Nike posted something. THE NIKE WOMENS HALF MARATHON IS COMING TO DC IN SPRING 2013. Hello! DC is such a doable place for me since by then my roommate and I are hoping to live near the VA, NC, SC area. That’s completely doable and affordable. You know what this means?! I am back to training for a half marathon. However, I am breaking it up this time and training for a 5k first so I don’t become overwhelmed. Then I will move on to 10k training once that becomes possible and then I will be in good shape to continue to train for the half marathon when it arrives in a year. Now obviously there is no guarantee that I will even be picked in the raffle for this race, but I am willing to train and try. If all else fails, I’ll do the Disney half! Always fun as well. πŸ™‚

Be prepared for vlogs, updates, and overwhelming gripes from my lack of running skill. I cannot wait to share this journey with you. I will still be signing up for CrossFit still and still weight training, but I am going to start making the training and focused part of my workout schedule. πŸ™‚

Shocking from this lifting junkie, right?

Happy Easter

Whether you celebrate Passover or Easter, HAPPY HOLIDAY! πŸ™‚

I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday with their friends and family. Soak it up for me since I’m home alone haha. I was supposed to get a lot of things accomplished today, but all I have managed to do is one load of laundry and I also bought a hat haha. Super exciting people! I am so productive.

But alas, I have a soft spot for adorable dogs. I cannot wait till my roommate and I can get one. πŸ™‚ So I leave you with this adorable picture on this amazing holiday. Be thankful for all the amazing things in life and take time to relax. I know I will. πŸ™‚

Adorable, right?
